The longest race in Newbury Canoe Club's Waterside Series: Devizes to Newbury on the Kennet and Avon, the classic DW stage-one warm-up.
About
Waterside D is about 34 to 35 miles with around 35 portages from Devizes Wharf to Newbury Wharf along the Kennet and Avon Canal. It is the final and longest event in the Waterside Series and matches the first stage of the Devizes to Westminster race.
Races A, B and C cover shorter sections of the same canal corridor in the weeks before.
History
The Waterside Series is organised by Newbury Canoe Club and has become England's largest annual marathon canoe and kayak series. Races build in length from roughly 13.5 miles up to Waterside D. Despite its role as a DW warm-up, finishing D is a serious day out in its own right.
