Waterside A is about 13.5 miles with around 21 portages from Great Bedwyn to Newbury Wharf (American Bridge finish). It is the opening race of Newbury Canoe Club's Waterside Series and a common early DW warm-up.
Like the rest of the series it is a time trial: paddlers choose a start time within the published window and must finish before the course closes.
History
The Waterside Series is organised by Newbury Canoe Club and is England's largest annual marathon canoe and kayak series. Four Sunday time trials run in the eight weeks before Easter, getting longer each time, and are widely used as preparation for the Devizes to Westminster race.
